Cummins Power Generation unveiled its most powerful diesel genset to date at the Uptime Symposium in California last week.
Cummins’ new diesel fuelled generator set can produce up to 3.5MW of power on a 60Hz frequency, and 3.75 MVA on 50Hz.
The generators are able to take 100% of rated load in a single step, and are ready to accept facility load within 10 seconds.
Cummins Power Generation (Cummins) is to host three launch events via the Internet to introduce the company’s new range of diesel powered generator sets.
The generator giant will host one event on November 5th 11am Central Time and two on November 6th at 11am Hong Kong Time and 9am Greenwich Mean Time.
The events will feature presentations by Rich Freeland, president and COO of Cummins and other senior Cummins executives who have been involved with developing the new product line. A live questions and answer session will also be part of the launch.
An online exhibition is aimed to allow attendees to view interactive models of the new generator sets. Cummins will provide detailed technical data and application information to download.
Cummins recently received a genset order placed by rental firm A-Plant worth £450,000 for 27 of the new C100D2R 100kVA unit.

Cummins Power Generation is to provide solar hybrid, battery hybrid and diesel generator systems to Myanmar’s Irrawaddy Green Towers (IGT).
The products will be delivered to over 750 mobile-tower sites that IGT will install during the next year. Two-thirds of the sites will be off the country’s primitive power grid and located in remote locations.
Cummins Power Generation’s hybrid power systems are designed to decrease capital expenditure while lowering the cost of ownership and ensuring uninterrupted operations. According to the critical power provider, the integrated battery storage allows the operators to reduce generator run time and save fuel costs. Myanmar’s poor road infrastructure makes refueling the generators more difficult and expensive.
"While there are no shortages of renewable hybrid solution providers, we chose Cummins Power Generation for their technical expertise as well as their local service capability and coverage," said Charbel Abou-Jaoude, CEO of IGT.
Telecom provider Telenor Myanmar, who won a license along with Ooredoo to roll out a mobile network in Myanmar in 2013, contracted IGT. Cummins Power Generation also has a supply agreement with telecom startup Ooredoo.
A range of high-horsepower diesel generator sets from Cummins Power Generation has been awarded Tier 4 Final certification by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The win by the 680-2750kW generator sets represents the first such award from the EPA.
Tier 4 emissions requirements are designed to reduce emissions of particulate matter (PM), nitrogen oxides (NOx) and air toxics from new, non-road diesel engines. As part of the initiative, the EPA proposed New Source Performance Standards (NSPS) to define acceptable levels of emissions in large stationary generator sets. NSPS standards are designed to regulate US emissions, and to be progressively tightened over time to achieve a steady rate of air quality improvement without significant economic disruption.
The certification will become mandatory in January 2015, although the EPA began issuing certificates a year earlier. Achieving certification ahead of the regulation date is a success for Cummins’ diesel emissions reduction technology, the company said.
Tier 4F emissions standards require emissions reduction to near-zero levels. For generator sets greater than 751HP, emissions must be at or less than 0.67 NOx, 0.19 HC, 3.50 CO and 0.03 particulate matter (PM).
There is no EPA limit on the number of hours that a generator can operate in emergency situations, but the EPA does limit operators to running their emergency gensets for 100 hours per year for maintenance and exercise purposes.
Power equipment manufacturer Cummins Power Generation has announced the release of its new web-based remote monitoring tool for backup power systems.
The PowerCommand 500/550 software will allow multiple users to monitor generator sets, transfer switches, sensors and output controls from any location, Cummins said. The tool can also start and stop generators and transfer switch tests, as well as reset and acknowledge faults remotely.
Users can monitor data from up to 150 nodes, including genset data such as annunciator, alternator and engine information, and transfer switch data such as source, load and switch connection status. Additional monitoring and controlling capabilities can be provided by expandable I/O modules.
The PowerCommand 500 can monitor and control two devices, for example one genset and one transfer switch in a typical standby power operation, while the PowerCommand 550 can monitor and control up to 12 on-site devices.
Both applications notify users of power system events as they happen, via an email or text message. The software also collects and stores data logs, and its data logging capability can be expanded with a USB memory device or SD card.
The software is compatible with Cummins and third-party power generation equipment and is accessible from any PC or Mac computer, with point-and-click access to its functions.
The new tool will reduce the need for service calls and site visits, Cummins said.
