CTEK and WiTricity unite to revolutionise EV charging

The revolution in Electric Vehicle charging is step closer this week after wireless power transfer company WiTricity signed a technology and patent license agreement with CTEK Corporation.

Under the terms of this licensing agreement, CTEK will develop and bring to market wireless charging based on WiTricity technology for automotive and recreational vehicle battery systems.

NTU develops “ultra-fast” charging li-on battery

Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University (NTU) has developed a lithium-ion battery that can be recharged up to 70% in two minutes.

The battery is also designed to have a lifespan of 20 years. Current batteries have a lifespan of 2-3 years and take about 40 minutes to get up to 80% of charge, according to professor Chen Xiaodong from the School of Materials Science and Engineering at NTU.

Energy Star bows out of battery charging system standards

Energy Star, the US government-backed programme that promotes energy efficiency in products, has decided to withdraw its standards for battery charging systems from December 31, 2014.

The agency is withdrawing because it believes the standards set in California outstrip its own or the Department of Energy's and believe multiple sets of standards could cause confusion to companies and consumers.
