Powertecnique has struck a deal with Network Rail to deliver a standby generator at the “York Engineers’ Triangle”, a rail operating and training centre, in York, UK.
The generator is a 1,250kVA prime rated genset, synchronising two different mains supplies with DeepSea 8000 series controllers with additional PLC control systems and a G59 relay. The genset aims to minimise unplanned downtime or disruption to critical power.
The contract also provides the installation of an underground bulk fuel tank with remote fuel point and double skinned connecting pipework with leak detection and an additional 1,100kW resistive load bank for full load testing to the generator or other uninterruptible power supplies (UPS).
“We worked alongside BAM Construction and consultants Ramboll to deliver the solution for the operating centre, before presenting the proposed solution to Network Rail”, said Peter Chai-Tsai, sales and marketing director at Powertecnique.
The operating centre in York is planned to be the largest in the UK, controlling the signaling along the east coast from London King’s Cross to the Scottish borders. “There has been a huge nationwide upgrade on operating centres and the site in York will bring in signals from across the region through large central technologies. It is imperative that the site’s power is supported continuously to keep operations running as smoothly as possible”, added Chai-Tsai.
