The worldwide distributed energy storage market could be worth $68 billion from 2014 to 2024, according to a report by Navigant Research.

The report, “Energy Storage for the Grid and Ancillary Services” analyses the global market for grid-scale storage, with a focus on bulk and ancillary service applications.

Some 91 new grid-scale energy storage systems representing total capacity of 362.8 MW were launched or announced between January 1, 2013 and September 30, 2014, according to a report.

Navigant Research’s Energy Storage Tracker 3Q14 report states the 2013-2014 period has been particularly active for lithium-ion technology, with 168.6 MW announced in the past two years. Currently, there are 236.3 MW of Li-ion deployed globally.
