Australian battery developer and manufacturer Redflow’s core zinc-bromide flow battery has received CE approval – paving the way for sales in Europe.

The approval allows the zinc-bromide flow batteries (ZMB) to be available in commercial quantities and Redflow’s partners to integrate them for use in energy storage systems in Europe.

South Korean energy storage company H2 is to set up a new battery production plant to scale up the production of its secondary vanadium redox flow battery.

The 4628m2 facility will be built in Yuseong, South Korea, with a targeted annual production capacity of 30MWh.

The global installation of flow batteries will reach 360MWh by 2020, according to a report by Lux Research.

Falling costs will carve out a market worth $190 million. Within the stationary energy storage market, the vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB) is the most mature technology, and accounts for 75MWh of deployed systems.
