Dutch power rental company Bredenoord has launched a power plant for off-grid solar-based systems.

The off-grid plant provides stand-alone energy, varying from 3kW to 3MW. The plant links a solar installation to a generator, which adds power in case of lower energy input.

The system is aiming to save fuel due to the combination of solar energy and a generator. “Tests prove that the reliability of the ‘power plant’ remains guaranteed, while at the same time it results in fuel savings up to 40%, when compared to the use of only generators”, claimed Franz Hullegie, manager Export and Development at Bredenoord.

Bredenoord stated the system is intended for sites outside of Europe with a demand for autonomous plants with no connection to the grid.

The company has tested the PV-plant on the roof at its headquarters in Apeldoorn, with 162 solar panels with a combined power of 40kWp. "Each practical situation is different”, said Hullegie and adds that the tests were performed with various different technologies and combinations: “In this way we can tune each Off-grid solar-based power plant in such a way that it best fits the situation and needs of the client.”
