Hitec Power Protection has appointed a new Chief Executive Officer called Ivo Mönnink to bring Hitec into new markets and expand the company’s global presence.

Hitec has close to 1700 UPS units installed worldwide including the Diesel Rotary UPS System, called the Hitec QPS, which is built to reduce plant space with the highest power density per square meter in the industry.

Mönnink has been brought in to continue this technology leadership. "Hitec doesn't just manufacture and sell dynamic uninterruptible power supplies -- they invented them. For more than 50 years, the company has produced the market's most advanced solutions for keeping mission-critical infrastructures reliable and running at peak efficiency," said Mönnink.

Prior to Hitec, Mönnink worked at Netherlands-based FERM B.V, a power equipment provider; he was Europe Managing Director at Chicago-based Pregis Hexacomb, a packaging company. He also brings commercial, branding and communications expertise to Hitec from roles at Nike and Unilever.

Emerson Network Power has released a 300W AC-DC power supply for manufacturers of industrial and medical equipment to be able to use a single output power option. Called the LCM300Q-T-4, it features a digital control, which enables firmware updates to modify parameters such as peak load handling, voltage control, and to create unique fan speed profiles.

The new model offers a 24 V output, which can be trimmed to ±20%, with 5 V standby. It has efficiency greater than 91% at full load, a typical power factor of 0.98, and a power density of 7.1 W/in3.

The unit is safety approved for use in industrial and medical settings such as light industrial applications and factory automation, including battery charging; medical, dental and laboratory applications; as well as for telecom and datacom equipment.

Hitachi Chemical Co will increase its production capacity for industrial lead-acid batteries by next January by expanding facilities of the subsidiary company Shin-Kobe Electric Machinery Co.

Some US$12 750000 (one billion yen) will be spent on constructing a building with a new assembly line at Shin-Kobe's Nabari Works in Mie Prefecture, the main site making lead-acid batteries.  It is estimated cell production capacity is likely to increase by 50%.

The site will make back-up power source batteries, the LL-W series of which demand is growing for in offices and factories at risk of power failures.  Joining 192 LL-W batteries together can produce 40kw of electricity for around ten hours.

Shin-Kobe Co. accounts for roughly 30% of the domestic market for industrial lead-acid batteries.  The LL-W products claim a battery life of 17 years, one of the world's longest, and are a fraction of the cost of a lithium-ion counterpart.
