It’s been a good week for French battery firm Saft as it posted half-year sale profits, announced a €20million deal and three major projects.

The company is set to supply its 48V Evolion lithium-ion battery systems to Indian telecoms provider Reliance Jio’s.

Saft, the self acclaimed world leading designer and manufacturer of advanced technology batteries for industry, signed a five-year extension to a framework agreement to supply lithium-ion  battery systems to JSC ISS, Russia's largest commercial satellite company, at the Paris Airshow last week.

The contract further extends the agreement originally signed in 2010. It covers the development and supply of lithium-ion () battery systems for GEO (geostationary earth orbit) commercial telecommunications satellites based on the Express platform. The contract extension further cements the relationship between Saft and JSC ISS which started in 2008.

French battery manufacturer Saft showcased the latest addition to its lithium-ion home storage portfolio in partnership with German inverter manufacturer KACO at the ees exhibition in Munich.

The new Intensium Home 10M 240V cabinet system consists of five lithium-ion modules and boasts a 10 kW rated capability and a 10kWh storage capacity, suitable for both home and commercial installation.

French battery manufacturer Saft has launched a lithium-ion battery designed as a drop-in replacement for lead-acid in military vehicles.

The 26V, 60Ah Xcelion 6T™ battery weighs 20.7kg and can be discharged from -40 to +60 degrees centigrade.

French battery manufacturer Saft Group has won a contract to supply nickel-based backup batteries to the tram system in the British town of Sheffield.

Saft is contracted to supply the Spanish tram manufacturer Vossloh Spain with Saft MRX batteries to seven tram-trains ordered by Sheffield’s local transport authority.

Each tram-train will contain three battery systems where two 130 Ah capacity Saft MRX batteries will provide upto 90 minutes of power to functions such as lighting, doors, pantograph raising and communications. The third battery with a capacity of 70 Ah provides backup power for additional onboard functions.  The MRX batteries can operate in temperatures ranging from - 30° to + 70°C. 

The delivery of these systems began in December 2014, and is expected to continue throughout the year.

Saft also supplied the batteries when Sheffield’s first Supertram trains went into service in 1994.

French Saft Groupe’s newest Ni-Cd ultra low maintenance battery for aircrafts has passed in-flight tests.

Saft’s 435CH6 ULM is a 24V, 43 Ah battery designed to be the airplane’s main power source alongside standby and auxiliary functions.

Saft delivers backup power to Bangladesh

French Saft Groupe is set to deliver two large battery systems to provide backup power at Shanghai Electric Group Company’s power plant in Bangladesh.

Each of the battery systems will consist of 175 of Saft’s nickel-cadmium batteries, SBLE700, which has a nominal capacity of 700 Ah ready to provide autonomous power, should the main plant power supply be interrupted.

The batteries will be deployed to Shanghai Electric Group’s 225 MW combined cycle power plant in Bangladesh’ third largest city Khulna. Delivery will take place in mid-2015.

French firm Saft has secured a deal to supply five million lithium cells to Asian utility OEMS.

Under the contract will see the company’s Eternacell branded cells provided to electricity metering OEMs in China, India and Taiwan.
