Nissan has unveiled the Zeod RC – the world's fastest EV – at Le Mans 24-Hours one year before the racing car will take on the endurance race.

The all electric racing car capable of reaching speeds of 300km/h was displayed to fans in the public area of the Le Mans circuit. "The Nissan Zeod RC will allow us to further develop zero emission automotive technology capabilities using the toughest endurance race in the world as a mobile test-bed to test the potential of our planned LM P1 power train," said Andy Palmer, Executive VP and Executive Committee member at Nissan Motor Company Limited.

Palmer said Nissan is to showcase the battery technology developments it has been working on at Le Mans next year as the first company using battery powered cars in endurance racing. “The technologies developed through the Zeod RC programme will form part of future innovations for Nissan road cars,” Palmer added.

Nissan will test options for electric-petrol hybrids as well as pure electric power for road cars. The Zeod will make its testing debut this summer and its debut race will be at Le Mans 2014 in the “Garage 56” grid spot, an entry for vehicles that showcase innovative technology.
