US battery manufacturer Johnson Controls is set to increase its existing lead-acid battery capacity in its Toledo, Ohio plant.

When the Toledo plant expansion finishes in 2016, it will expand the production of Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) advanced batteries for Start-Stop vehicle applications.

LG Chem is to supply lithium-ion batteries for a 2MW energy storage system aimed at increasing Ohio’s grid reliability and stability.

The storage project will help regulate electric grid frequency for PJM, the transmission organisation that powers the eastern side of the U.S.
