Genset manufacturer Himoinsa has secured a contract to supply diesel generator sets to provide standby power for trains in Saudi Arabia.

The Spanish firm has already delivered and installed 29 gensets to the high-speed train-line between Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia.

The manufacturer is still set to deliver another nine generator sets to the Spanish infrastructure company Cobra - one of 12 companies responsible for implementing the Saudi high-speed trains - by late 2016.

Himoinsa has delivered five different types of 60Hz, three-phase, 480V diesel generator sets, with the ability to deliver standby power ranging from 152 – 407 kW, equipped with Iveco or MTU engines.

Spanish genset manufacturer Himoinsa has developed a medium voltage standby project for use at one of the Faroe Islands’ power plants.

The Faroese utility company SEV has installed two Himoinsa HMW-3030 T5 6.6kV generator sets, connected in parallel at its thermal power plant in Sund, about 10km outside the capital Thorshavn.

The gensets deliver an output of 3000 kVA at 6.6 kV of voltage.

Equipped with MTU engines the gensets are ready to kick in within12 seconds in the event of power interruption, and due to its proximity to the sea the project has been fitted with a seawater cooling system.

According to he U.S. Energy Information Administration – Independent Statistics & Analysis, the average power consumption on the 18 Faroe Islands is 240,000 MWh with available power generated reaching 260,000 MWh.

The Japanese diesel engine manufacturer Yanmar has acquired a 70% stake in Spanish genset manufacturer Himoinsa through a consolidated operation agreement.

The companies started collaborating in the genset industry in 2006, and president of Himoinsa, Francisco Gracia says this deal was the logical next step.

Gracia said: “We believe the bond created between the two companies will be stronger than if we were operating separately.”

Himoinsa has for long sought to operate as a vertical manufacturer, and already produces its own alternators, electric controllers and canopies. The arrangement allows Himoinsa to add generator engines to its line of products.

The deal does not involve any changes in branding, company name or employee structure for either party involved.

Spanish OEM Himoinsa has provided diesel generators and lighting towers to a coal mine operated by Erdenes in the Gobi desert in Mongolia.

The three-phase gensets run on a stand-by application and feature a pre-heater system to ensure a promptly start at temperatures from -40°C in the winter as well as to over 35°C in the summer.

According to Himoinsa, the gensets deliver the rated power within 10s after utility failure and have an epoxy polyester powder finish to prevent corrosion.

The 9-metre high transportable lighting towers are aimed to run every night during the summer and 24/7 during the winter. “These lighting towers can operate for up to 70 hours non-stop, more than 7 nights without refueling," said Manuel Sánchez Bada, engineering manager at Himoinsa.

The equipment will operate at Erdenes’ coa lmine in the Ömnögovi province, which has 6.4 billion tonnes of coal and is divided into six sections. Five lighting towers and one genset from Himoinsaare currently  in operation at the extraction site.

The Spain-headquartered company recently supplied 25 diesel gensets and lighting towers to a BIOCOM-managed biofuel production plant in Cacuso, Angola.

Spanish genset OEM Himoinsa has provided 25 diesel gensets and lighting towers to a BIOCOM-managed biofuel production plant in Cacuso, Angola.

The equipment has a capacity from 180 kVA to 400 kVA and is designed to guarantee continuous supply of energy and to prevent any outages. Himoinsa’s products are also aimed to provide power to develop sugar cane production at the plant.

The plant commenced working this month and has started to generate 120MW of electricity with an expected annual output of up to 18,000 tonnes of sugar and 3,000 cubic metres of ethanol.

The biofuel plant currently supplies 220,000 homes in the region of Malanje. From 2019, the Biocom is planned to rise to 235MWh to increase the amount of power travelling through the Capanda/Cacuso high-voltage cable to power 440,000 homes. Biocom has estimated that the annual production will climb to 256,000 tonnes of sugar and 30m litres of ethanol.

"The project is beneficial to the population of Malanje and important for Himoinsa Angola's technical and commercial team,” said Himoinsa Angola's commercial director Osvaldo de Brito Simao.

Himoinsa also provides technical and maintenance services with staff on-site.

Biocom is a temporary consortium comprising of Sonangol, Sociedade Nacional de Combustíveis of Angola and the Brazilian construction company Odebrecht.

Himoinsa supplies four gensets to Gibraltar

Spanish genset OEM Himoinsa has supplied four gensets to the British overseas territory Gibraltar on the Iberian peninsular.

Himoinsa packaged four Mitsubishi engines - two 1000kVA and two 2000kVA – to generate power at a low voltage, 400V. The presence of two transformers enables the power to be stepped up to 11kV. The customer is Gibraltar Electricity Authority (Gibelec)

With an approximate population of 29,500 inhabitants, Gibraltar has a constantly increasing energy demand. The four gensets will cover both peak demand and to provide supply when other gensets experience faults or undergo maintenance checks.

Himoinsa’s two HTW-2030 gensets are housed in a 40ft container, while the HTW-1030 units are housed in 20ft containers. The gensets are controlled by means of the SCADA system, computer software that allows remote controlling and monitoring of industrial processes; all gensets feature InteliGen ComAp control units for utility paralleling.

A 30ft container contains two 11kV/400V 3000kVA transformers, while fuel is housed within three aboveground 10,000 litre storage tanks.
