Japan’s GS Yuasa International has bought 50% of the outstanding shares in a Turkish lead-acid battery manufacturer.

The Asian battery manufacturer will turn Inci Aku Sanayi ve Ticaret Anonim Sirketi (inci) into one of its ‘key centers’ in its global strategy as it looks to expand during its third mid-term business plan.

The smart money should be on the lead-acid motorcycle market if Japanese firm GS Yuasa’s latest tranche of investments is anything to go by.

The company is boosting its lead-acid battery output by 2.3 million units (to 30million) in Indonesia by 2016 as the Asian motorcycle market – especially China and India –expands.

German technology firm Bosch has entered into a joint venture to double the average lithium-ion automotive battery before 2020.

The Lithium Energy and Power joint venture sees the company team up with Japanese battery company GS Yuasa and Mitsubishi.

NTSB: Dreamliner battery fire caused by design, testing

The battery fire that led to the grounding of Boeing’s Dreamliner fleet last year was caused by inadequate design and testing, according to the final report by the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).

The lithium-ion battery fire occurred on January 7, 2013 on a Japan Airlines 787 Dreamliner while the plane sat at Boston’s Logan International Airport.

Nippon Sharyo integrates GS Yuasa lithium-ion battery system in electric carrier

Japan’s battery manufacturer GS Yuasa’s lithium-ion battery system has been fitted in Nippon Sharyo’s electric-powered carrier NeGEM.

GS Yuasa and Nippon Sharyo have jointly carried out battery pack test runs for the integration in the heavy load vehicle. The battery system for industrial use has a capacity of 47.5Ah. According to GS Yuasa, compared to previous batteries, the energy density per unit volume is more than 50% higher, and the energy density per unit weight is more than 30% higher.
