Primus Power has won a contract to supply a 250kW 1MWh zinc-bromine flow battery to a Department of Defense Marine Corps Air Station in California. 

The project is part of the DoD’s Environmental Security Technology Certification Programme’s Zinc Bromide Flow Battery Installation for Islanding and Backup Power project.

Lithium NMC to be used for Formula E race car

The battery for the Formula E racecar will be an LG Chem lithium-ion battery, BEST understands.

The battery system, designed by Williams Advanced Engineering will go into the cars driven by the ten teams, will feature a lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide (NMC) battery produced by LG Chem.

The US Electricity Storage Association has changed its name, leadership and website.

The new name is the Energy Storage Association.

The ESA also has a new executive director, Matthew Roberts, an energy policy expert, having previously led government and public affairs on behalf of trade association focussed on advanced transportation fuels. There is also a new-look website to tell people about the changes and promote the deployment of energy storage technologies.

OXIS Energy collaborates with Proinso for solar storage system

Oxis Energy is collaborating with Proinso to develop a prototype energy storage system to integrate with PV systems.

Proinso is a PV inverter and system supplier, it is working with the lithium-sulphur battery developer to create a storage system for commercial release later this year.

Navitas Systems secures forklift truck contract for drop-in lithium battery

Drop-in lithium-ion battery supplier Navitas Systems has secured a contract to supply one of the world’s largest forklift truck OEMs, BEST understands.

Michigan-based Navitas said the forklift truck batteries would be rolled out in Europe first. Due to a non-disclosure agreement, no further details are forthcoming.

Källström Engineering, the Swedish supplier of acid filling and dilution equipment, has entered into an agreement for Digatron Firing Circuits to represent the battery equipment manufacturer in China.

The agreement, in place since late 2013, will see Digatron represent and sell Källström equipment in China to increase sales and improve aftersales service.

A hybrid anode of lithium and graphite has significantly extended the lifecycle of lithium-sulphur batteries at Pacific Northwestern National Laboratory (PNNL), US.

Lithium-sulphur holds the promise of four times greater energy density than lithium-ion but are prone to short life due to sulfation.
